Aphrodisiac Fun for Valentine's Day

1/29/2014

So you are what you eat, huh? Well how about being a sexy beast this Valentine’s Day?  An aphrodisiac is a substance that increases sexual desire. The word comes from the Greek goddess of love Aphrodite. There is no scientific proof that any food actually causes sexual desire, but there are foods that affect your stress level, energy, brain chemistry and some actually increase blood flow to our sexy areas down under. So lets take a little adventure into these foods shall we? At the bottom of this post I have included a simple aphrodisiac starter recipe... please check back or get linked onto my facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TinyTaster so you can be the first to know of my newest recipes! More Valentine's Day recipes to come this weekend!

Chicken & Rice Soup

Happy Monday! Unfortunately its a not-so-happy one for my honey, he is home sick with some kind of fever/flu from hell... I thought he had slipped away clean after I had mine a couple of weeks ago, but I guess whatever this evil possession is, is going around and its not letting anyone get away! The funny thing is, when I was having my episode, Matt thought I was being a little over dramatic and exaggerating about the constant alternation of chills and sweats. Last night he poked his head out from under his covers and with a sad face said "you were right...." Oh how that made me glow! I tried hiding it of course... but inside I was doing a dance and singing the "I told you so" song :) hehehehe I promise I am not evil, but c'mon ladies, has your man ever made you feel like a wimp over having some pain and then when they have the same pain its like "alert the media, the end is near!!!"? Either way, I felt bad, because I do know exactly how much pain he was in... so I decided to make him one of my favorite healing soups :)

Sunday, Cilantro Rice & Roasted Farmer's Market Veggies

I love how Sunday Funday has gone from being young and reckless to not-so-young cooking and relaxing... Yesterday we took a stroll through the local farmer's market and found some gems! The veggies were beautiful so we had to grab a bunch of those, some homemade jellies full of fresh fruit and some stinky cheeses. Today was spent mostly cleaning earlier on and then a little relaxing, of course. I busted open my gruyere and Spanish wine infused cheese and yes.... a bottle of red. You can take the girl out of Sunday Funday but you can't take the Sunday Funday out of the girl! My favorite thing that I ate today was this cilantro rice, made from the fresh cilantro I found at the market!

Jala-Popper Dip

For my final Super Bowl dip, I made this creamy, spicy goodness AKA jalapeño popper dip. This is also a lighter version of the traditional thing. I wanted to keep it fairly healthy since I know we are all way too close to having made some serious health resolutions, and its just too soon to break them! Trust me though, no flavor or creaminess was harmed in the process. This was my boyfriend's favorite dip of all the ones I made! You can adjust the spicyness level by how much canned jalapeño you add. I like my spice, so I added 2 cans! Lets go through the steps together, shall we?

Skinny[er] Buffalo Chicken Dip

You really can't have Super Bowl without some kinda buffalo chicken something, can you!? This is a perfect way to bring some spice to that Super Bowl party. You can make it ahead of time and throw it in the oven to warm through once you get to your destination. This is a skinnier version since it has lighter cheese and fat free greek yogurt. Keep the healthy vibe going by decorating your dish with veggies but you might want to bring over some corn chips for scooping too! The pictures of this dip aren't as appealing as I wanted them to be, but I promise you, it tastes better than it looks ;) Just check out the ingredients!

Black Bean Hummus with Roasted Peppers & Queso Fresco

Hummus. It's pretty difficult to NOT get addicted to this creamy dip. I know when I tried out the vegan thing for a month, it was my go-to snack. (omit the cheese if you are vegan!) Beans are a great source of protein and garbanzos are one of the tastiest of the bunch! For this years superbowl, I was thinking lets go dip-crazy... without breaking our New Years resolutions, right? This is my latin-fied version of the traditional hummus, I think the manly men at the party will enjoy it too! I also made some easy pita chips that I will recipe up for you. All in all this hummus really satisfied my bean craving. I do have to say something though.... that might not be the sweetest thing for a lady to say to you.... on her food blog of all places.... RINSE your canned beans THOROUGHLY! The liquid in the cans is no bueno and makes for an uncomfortable tummy and a smelly party. I'm sorry!!!! Just rinse. Please.

This weekend was a relaxing one. Spent most of it with our house guests and close friends. Another cold snap is coming through this week {I LOVE the cold!} and we are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our close friends' baby boy, so there are some wonderful things to look forward to! In preparation for a week when we might be in and out of the house a lot, I wanted to make something easy to throw together for the first few days. My egg salad is a perfect lunch to have prepped. Its super easy and sooooooooo tasty. I love the grainy mustard in it and my new favorite mayo which has some lemon flavor in it. This is seriously the best egg salad I have ever had! Toot toot!

Its almost the weekend again, thank goodness! After so much time off during the holidays, it's hard not to get used to it. Last night was extra special for me because one of my best friends came back to Orlando with her husband, after being gone for 3+ months! So we welcomed them back with a little grill out at our house. We had some friends over,  lit the fire-pit and a bunch of food was made.  This bruschetta is what I welcomed our guests with. This is one of my go-to hors d'oeuvres. It's simple, fresh and full of flavor!

Spicy Seafood Boil

Happy 2014 fellow foodies!!! I made this spicy and delicious pot of seafood on New Years Eve and it was the perfect, light way to end the year. I apologize for not posting this recipe sooner, I ended up becoming very sick after the celebrations and am finally feeling TONS better today :) What a way to start the year, right?!  I apologize also that you cannot see everything in the pot, I also had some crab legs in there but they were way at the bottom. You can substitute any shell fish you like for this! I just love mussels, clams, crab and shrimp. If you want to snazz it up, add lobster tails! Just a warning, this recipe is spicy! Keep a lookout for some "resolution recipes" AKA  healthy recipes for all of you foodies trying to be healthy as a 2014 promise to yourselves! I will help you with that without sacrificing flavor xoxo
