I am back this week with a new HEMP-alicious recipe! This is an easy one, PACKED with nutrition, and the perfect morning post workout meal if you ask me. On the weekends I love to wake up early(ish) and go for a run to start my day. A couple of weeks ago when I first made this, I thought this would be a great after run breakfast. I debated with myself about making a coffee as well as I needed a little extra kick. But having two beverages just didn't seem right. So I thought why not put my coffee INSIDE my protein smoothie? I don't see why not :)
I absolutely love my little Nespresso Pixie machine. Amazing coffee every time. I'm not one to sit there and sip on a giant coffee, I like to make a shot of espresso and get on with it. This machine has really made that possible for me without having to take a trip to the 'bucks. So the first thing I do when making this smoothie is brew a shot!
Just how ridiculous does that look.... that's just straight out of the machine! Frothy heaven. When you've made your shot, just set it aside so it can cool down a bit while you get everything else together. To make your smoothie you can use a blender, I personally love my NutriBullet. I added some almond milk, some spinach (you won't even taste it so don't get scared!), my hemp protein powder, some hemp seeds, banana and then the shot of espresso and a few ice cubes. Perfection. I am really LOVING all the amazing hemp products sent to me by Manitoba Harvest. The protein powders have no chemically taste as they are so natural. The protein powder I used for this particular smoothie is the dark chocolate.
Check out that ingredients list.... impressive huh?! Now go look at the ingredients list on the protein powder you have at home. I know. Insane... Seriously loving this. Once I blended everything up, I topped off my smoothie with some more hemp seeds. I LOVE the extra little crunch and texture they give my smoothie! I used to go to this smoothie place in South Florida that made a choco banana shake and I loved when they would use chocolate chips all blended up and they were all crunchy in my shake! Thats what this reminds me of.
I felt like a genius when I tasted this because the flavor of the coffee was just the perfect kick to this recovery drink. My body was happy from my run and then from this cup of chocolatey java concoction. Give this a try as soon as you have your hemp products, I promise you will thank me :)
